Artistic Statement

My writing uses daily life as subject matter while commenting on the everyday aesthetic of middle class values. By using popular themes such as sexuality, family structure and violence, I create works that are an investigation into representations of concrete ages and situations. My inclusive depictions scream to be acknowledged, encompassed and accepted.

My work deals with expectations, and challenges the binaries we continually construct, and re-construct, between self and other. Characters extend beyond their imposed societal limits and, at times, tell a story about the effects of global cultural interaction in the twentieth century.

My writing often refers to pop and mass culture, creating a world where light-heartedness rules and where rules are undermined.
